Join Judie Caribeaux as she leads this interactive workshop at the IARF Educational Conference & Expo.
Leadership transitions and unexpected disruptions are no longer outliers—they’re constants in today’s nonprofit environment. This hands-on workshop introduces contingency planning as a critical and underused tool to not only prepare for the unexpected but to identify and grow leadership capacity within your team.
Participants will learn a simple and adaptable contingency planning framework and then work in small groups to apply it to a realistic leadership or staffing risk. The session will emphasize how planning for uncertainty can surface key leadership roles, develop emerging leaders, and improve succession readiness. Participants will leave with a working draft of a contingency plan and the tools to continue building resilience back at their organizations.
Participants will:
Understand what contingency planning is and how it differs from other planning tools.
Identify leadership risks and potential disruptions within their organization.
Apply a simple contingency planning process to a leadership transition scenario.
Connect contingency planning to leadership development and succession strategies.
Leave with a draft plan and resources to take back to their teams.
